Pickup ledger / guide 04

SpeedRunners 2 items & counters

Ten pickups can change a race, but the useful answer is always contextual: what the item threatens, when to fire, and what the leader can do next.

Needs verification

Short answer

Do not treat an item as a button press. Record the race state, the target’s route, the timing window, and the counter. The published feature list includes 10 pickups; exact names, behavior, and balance need current-build captures.

Every pickup has a timing question.

The item guide is organized around decisions instead of a flat list. A defensive hold can be stronger than an immediate attack when the next choke point is still ahead.

01 / THREATWhat changes?Does it stop, redirect, slow, or separate a runner?
02 / WINDOWWhen fire?Record the map section and target movement that make it reliable.
03 / COSTWhat is lost?Missed timing may cost position, momentum, or the item itself.
04 / ANSWERWhat counters?Publish the defensive response beside the offensive use.

Populate item names only after the icon, behavior, and interaction are captured in the same version.

How to test an item.

  1. Capture the starting state.Note position, lead size, map layout, and whether the target has a recovery option.
  2. Use it at the same landmark.Timing is only comparable when the route and distance are comparable.
  3. Run the counter.Test what the target can do with and without the item so the advice includes the response.
  4. Mark confidence. One highlight clip is a lead; repeatable results are the publishable note.

Items FAQ

How many items are in SpeedRunners 2?

The published feature list includes 10 pickups. A responsible item database still needs current-build screenshots and behavior checks for each one.

When should I use a pickup?

Use it when the route creates a clear timing window: a leader is committed, a choke point is close, or a recovery is no longer possible without help.

What is the best item in SpeedRunners 2?

There is no context-free best item. Compare impact, reliability, counterplay, and how much momentum the use costs on the same layout.
